Birchwood Students Finish in the top 5% in American Mathematics Competition

Birchwood students, Ehren Collins, John Shin, Samuel Pan, Aidan Berard, Angela Shang, and Rebecca Chin, finished among the top 5% of all math students in the US in the American Mathematics Competition (AMC 8).
The AMC 8 is a 25-question, 40-minute, multiple-choice test for middle school students that serves to promote problem-solving skills. The annual completion facilitates the development of positive attitudes towards analytical thinking and mathematics crucial to future success. Local schools including Birchwood host this American Mathematics Association competition so that students can apply classroom skills to unique problem-solving challenges in a low-stress and friendly environment.

Birchwood’s Co-Founder, Charles Debelak, added further context to these students’ accomplishment stating, “Only the very top students, from the best schools, having a superior mathematics program, take the AMC8. In addition, this achievement is also a credit to the extra work these students invest in their math education through after school and weekend math classes."  Congratulations to our local high-achieving math students.
