Birchwood School of Hawken was founded in 1984 by a group of parents and educators who were determined to give their children, as well as members of the community, an unparalleled education that offered exceptional academic programming with an emphasis on achievement ethics, hard work, and character.

Birchwood remains true to its mission: to provide an educational setting where challenging academics build solid work habits, an achievement culture nurtures healthy attitudes, and a caring environment forges social responsibility.
Birchwood School of Hawken teachers work together in partnership with each other and the heads of school to offer students in preschool through grade 8 an extraordinary education.

“I am so thankful for the environment Birchwood teachers cultivated. They really instilled grit and compassion.”
