The MATHCOUNTS Competition is a national middle school coaching and competitive mathematics program promoting mathematics achievement through fun and engaging "bee" style contests.

“The team's success can be attributed directly to their hard work. They have been practicing challenging math problems on Thursdays and Saturdays since mid-October,” said Charles Debelak, one of Birchwood’s MATHCOUNTS coaches. Debelak and has been coaching the Birchwood MATHCOUNTS team for more than 30 years. Along with Debelak, the team is also coached by Dr. Catherine Haskins and Melissa Stalnaker.
