Birchwood Student Among Stone Soup Writing Contest Winners

Birchwood School of Hawken eighth grader Joshua Gordon earned congratulations in October for his submission to the monthly Stone Soup Flash Contest for his entry “Finding Permanence.” Gordon, 13, was among six winners and another six honorable mention awardees who responded to the children’s literary magazine’s monthly writing prompt.

October’s Stone Soup call for entries required a response to an open-ended prompt that asked participants to randomly choose a word from the dictionary and use that word to start their story or poem. The prompt attracted what the magazine called “far and away the most submissions we’ve ever received for a Flash Contest: 62!”

Stone Soup is 100% written and illustrated by kids through age 13. Now in its 49th year, Stone Soup has been inspiring children to read, write, and create their own artworks for publication in the magazine and on its website, www.StoneSoup.com.
