LORRAINE
TZENG
Lorraine
Tzeng started
teaching language arts when Birchwood School
opened its doors
in 1984. After four
years, she took a
hiatus to raise her four children (all of whom are Birchwood alumni). In 2004 she returned to
continue developing
the writing program at the school. Over
the years she has incorporated the pedagogy of writing pioneers like Peter
Elbow, Donald Graves, Donald Murray, and Lucille Payne, and she
continues to
evolve as she learns from her students. Many
of her pupils have distinguished themselves in local, state, and
national writing contests where they have been awarded top honors in
prestigious competitions like Letters About Literature and the
Scholastic
Writing Awards.
Mrs.
Tzeng earned her
bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Case Western Reserve University. She is a member of the
National Council of
Teachers of English and a long time competition judge for Power of the
Pen and
the Ohio Future Problem Solving Programs.
